Well hello!
Are we a bit late for Happy New Years? How about some Lucky Soul news to brighten up the January blues then? As promised, we’re releasing one last single from our second record, A Coming of Age, which, in fact comes in the shape of a spangly new digital-download-only EP released next month, featuring country weepy, Upon Hilly Fields. Also included are two favourites from the album, Love3 and Could Be I Don’t Belong Anywhere, as well as the brand new B-side, a gentle lullaby named Into the Night. You can pre-order the EP here.
We’re very excited to present the new video to Upon Hilly Fields – from the very talented hands of Brighton-based animator, Nick Murray Willis, who’s really done us proud. It brings a tear to our cartoon eyes. Click on the screen grab below to watch.
And talking of all things new, (drumroll please!) Ali and Andrew will be welcoming a brand new band member very soon – a baby girl, which we’re absolutely thrilled about. There won’t be any gigs for a few months, but before we hear the stamping of tiny diva feet, you’ll be pleased to know that we are already back in the studio and working on album number three. Of course we can’t tell you ANYTHING about it at this early stage, except that it’s sounding wonderful and we’ve never enjoyed ourselves recording so much before. It’s going to be a vintage year.

Thanks to everyone who came to see us at The Hoxton Bar and Kitchen in London on Tuesday. If you weren’t there you missed a great night with excellent supports and DJs and of course our drummer Mr. Atkins dressed as the devil. We all lost pounds in the sweltering heat, but the reception was still marvellous and a good time was had by all.
Next up it’s a pan-European weekend with our second appearance at the Lemonpop festival in Murcia, Spain on September 4 followed by a return to Berlin, Germany to headline Saturday night of Let’s Kiss and Make Up’s Indiepop Days Berlin Festival in Kreuzberg.
Our recent shows in both Spain and Madrid have been amazing so we’re really looking forward to coming back to both countries. Come and see us and say hello

We’re very pleased to officially announce that our next single will be live favourite and Northern Soul barn-stormer ‘Up In Flames’, as chosen by you, the fans, on our Facebook page. If you’re new to us and haven’t got our latest album ‘A Coming Of Age’ yet, then you can listen to the track and read about its genesis on Andrew’s blog.
To celebrate the release of our painfully hot single we’ll be playing our only London date of the summer at the painfully cool Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen on August 10th. It will be a thoroughly indie-pop affair with main support coming from some-very-special-guests-that-we’ll-announce-next-week, second support coming from the just as special but less mysterious The Lodger. Spinning platters on the night will be our old friend Ian Watson from legendary club night How Does It Feel To Be Loved? and Pocketbooks.
Tickets are available at http://www.wegottickets.com/event/86890 priced £9 adv.
We want the night to go down like as house on fire so why not come in fancy dress? The theme? ‘Flames’ of course! There’ll be a prize for everyone who makes an effort, so get your thinking caps on.
After successfully predicting the World Cup finalists, octopus-style, with recent shows in Spain and Holland, we move onto third place with a special acoustic show in Berlin’s Bang Bang Club next Tuesday July 20th. Uraguay, you know where we are.
Finally a big thanks to everyone who came to see us on our recent festival stint and particularly our debut Glastonbury performance which was an absolute dream come true for us all. Thanks to Billy Bragg for inviting us too.
See you in your flaming outfits

Our new album ‘A Coming Of Age’ is out now!
"This is the sound of a band switching from black-and-white to colour. One of the albums of the year, hands down." Simon Price – Independent on Sunday 5/5
And who are we to disagree? You can get it here, here or here or from all your usual physical and digital retailers.
Secondly a big thank you to everyone who came down to Cargo on Thursday and made our album launch a fantastic night to remember. It was the most fun we’ve had at a show for a long time, the new songs went down really well and it was great to meet old faces and new afterwards. So, thank you, you’re amazing.

Woah Billy! will be available from Monday 12th April as a digital download, backed with new soaring, country ballad ‘Why Can’t Everyone Be Nice For A Change?’ A limited edition 7″ will be available on 26th April, back with the BBC Radio 2 Record of the Week, ‘White Russian Doll’
Written, shot and cut by Lucky Soul.
Here’s what Andrew has to say about it…
“After blowing our video budget on one too many string sections, we decided to embrace our DIY ethic and shoot one ourselves. Everything from storyboards to sets, lights to animation we did ourselves and the film was shot on a long Saturday in Ali’s front room by guitarist Ivor Sims (who also directed the video for our first single) The video uses some really old Pelham marionette puppets that bassist Russell used to play with when he was a kid. They’re very macabre and have that disturbing Punch and Judy feel so we went for a Grimm-esque narrative with a distinctly non-Grimm disco breakdown.
The plot features the story of our puppet heroine ‘Dot’ and search for her abducted beau ‘Billy’ from her rough cut paper house, through cardboard forests to a ‘Watch With Mother’ style Studio 54, running into a host of weird and sinister characters along the way.
Shooting almost literally on a shoe string was challenging but probably the most enjoyable time we’ve had? a video and despite its low budget we achieved what we set out to do which was to make something very watchable, a little bit silly and a lot of fun.”
